The Company

GoBio Inc. provides a unique service: they are the first company to supply and support a publicly available database of antibodies available for commercialization. Antibodies are used in a wide variety of diagnostic, therapeutic, and research applications. GoBio’s innovative marketplace facilitates partnerships between a broad range of academic and industry developers working in the Life Sciences industry.

The Challenge

As a new company providing a singular service, GoBio needed an e-commerce website that could reach a diverse user group. They also needed custom back-end software to support the website. Finally, their business plan required the development of a database management system that met the following criteria:

(1) As the success of the service depended on the website’s ease-of-use, customers needed a user interface that is both simple and powerful.

(2) As the number of antibodies to be included in the database could range in the millions, the database needed to be highly scalable and flexible.

(3) GoBio needed maximum control over the website content, but did not want to be burdened by management of the database and underlying software.

(4) As a start-up venture, development and maintenance of the technology must be cost-effective.

Zurelsoft's solution

Given the scope of the client’s needs and the unique nature of their service, we collaborated with GoBio to customize a targeted solution that would fulfill each facet of their emerging business.

First, we developed a user-friendly website that is easy to navigate and focuses on the core service of the company. At all stages of implementation, maximizing the visitor’s experience was our paramount concern. This ensures that new customers will find the service easy to use and returning customers will continue to appreciate its convenience.

Second, we developed a custom software solution that seamlessly integrated a scalable, searchable database with the website. This specialized software package takes advantage of recent trends in cloud computing, making it expandable as demand for the service increases.

Third, we integrated our customized back-end software with an open source content management system, enabling the database to be decoupled from the content management of the website. GoBio is now able to manage its own content using a highly-supported, open source management system.

Finally, we worked carefully with GoBio to build a targeted, custom solution without unnecessary or distracting features. This kept initial development costs low.  Additionally, we developed the website, database, and custom software using software that does not incur licensing fees or require continuous upkeep. Such an approach will keep long-term operating costs at a minimum.

Throughout all phases of development, ZurelSoft and GoBio worked together as a team to design a custom solution for a unique service. Realizing the technology must support the business plan, not the other way around, we created a website and database solution that is built to last.
