Heat Illness Prevention

July 27, 2023

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, employers have the responsibility to provide workplaces free of safety and health hazards, including protecting workers from heat-related risks. To achieve this, employers should create a Heat Illness Prevention Plan, understand heat hazards, and use engineering controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment. Providing training to workers and supervisors about heat exposure risks and prevention measures is crucial. Employers and workers should also be familiar with the symptoms of heat illness and know first aid procedures. Sharing informational materials with workers to raise awareness of heat exposure risks is essential for maintaining a safe working environment.
