November 3, 2023
Louisiana contractor, Eastern Contractors Inc., fined $160,724 by OSHA for failing to use proper safety equipment in a fatal fall incident at a Georgia construction site.
Victor Javier Cajija Gamboa fell 60 feet to his death due to the absence of a fall-arrest system capable of resisting sharp edges and the neglect of worn and damaged safety lines.
Eastern Contractors has a history of safety violations, with four previous worker fatalities in the last four years at various sites.
The company is now in OSHA's Severe Violator Enforcement Program, which involves additional inspections and potential legal actions. They have 15 days to respond to the citations.
