Simple Financial Dashboard

As the title implies, it is a simple dashboard to allow construction service provides to analyze the financial aspect of their jobs.  It enables users to perform a bit more drill-down analysis by filtering the data by one or more job or other attributes of the job (such as a project manager in this case).

Summary

The summary section shows the following four key aggregate values for all the jobs selected: Total Contract Amount, Total Budget, Projected Total Cost, and Projected Gross Profit.

 

The jobs that are included in the summary is based on the filter selection. See "Interacting with the Dashboard" below for more on the filters.        

Contract Amount vs. Cost

This section displays the total contract amount and the projected cost of the selected jobs using a bar chart. Each bar in the bar chart shows the projected cost. The black tick marks show the contract amount. The light and dark shades around each bar serve as reference points at 80% and 60% of the contract amount, respectively. The bars are color-coded for the project manager responsible for the project (color legend appears on the right-hand side of the dashboard).

Gross Margin

This section displays the original gross margins of the selected job. Each bar shows the projected gross margin of a job, and the black tick mark with it shows its original gross margin. The light and dark shades around each bar serve as reference points at 80% and 60% of the original gross margin, respectively. The bars are color-coded for the project manager responsible for the project.

  
This chart includes two vertical lines. The solid line shows the average projected gross margin for the jobs shown. The dotted line provides a reference fixed at 35%.  

Interacting with the 

Dashboard

The dashboard provides interactive methods for users to filter data by jobs or project managers, and to view additional data.  

  1. Use the dropdown to select one or more jobs. 

  2. Use checkboxes to select one or more project managers. 

  3. Click on the color legend to select a project manager.

  4. Click on a bar to select a job.

  5. Hover mouse over various elements throughout the dashboard to view additional information.
